Trapeze by Simon Mawer

Ask virtually everyone and they'll tell you that I fall in love far to easily and far too often.  Most recently, I have fallen head over heals for Trapeze.  In my humble (and shy and never expressed opinion), this book should be on the to be read list of everyone who reads spy thrillers or espionage.

Think World War II.

Think French Resistance.

Think of how you would respond if you were asked to risk it all for your country.  Would you say yes?  Would you have reservations?  Would you be able to keep a tremendous secret?  Would you be able to look over your shoulder all of the time?

Today, most people would probably say, "No."

Fortunately during WWII, many French and French supporters said, "Yes."

This is the story of one young woman who said, 'Yes," and what that meant to her.

It isn't as fast paced as many of today's thrillers, but it isn't meant to be.

Remember it is a time when the radio was advanced technology.  Many people didn't have phones in their own homes.  Food was rationed.  Everyone was under suspicion.

Read it.  Think about it.
