29 days of giving ... day 22 - the gift of imagination and hats - lots of hats

My all time favorite place to eat and explore is MacAlpine's Soda Fountain in Central Phoenix. There is an old fashioned charm about the place that can't be rivaled.  Really.  But I am prejudiced because places like that run/ran in my family.  Besides, I don't know any place else around where I can get an Egg Creme.  (I haven't done it because I'm being good with my blood sugar, but I COULD if I really wanted to.  Really.)

A friend and her family have been in town visiting.  They wanted to go somewhere fancy for dinner.  But when you've got an eight year-old in tow, you want something fun that has personality.  I'm all for making memories that will come back over time ... and the look on her face when she got a clown sundae was priceless.

When my sisters and I were in high school, the ultimate test for any boy who took us out was the clown sundae - if they got embarrassed, there was no next date.  What's not to love?  It's got it all!

The restaurant also has a vintage clothing and antique 'stuff' section.  Turns out they had a lot of hats and a three way mirror.

Three adults, 15 or more hats, one goofy child.  That night, you might say hats were all the rage ... too bad they didn't have these lovely items on display, they would have gone over very well.

Oh! I remember clown sundaes! I had them once for a birthday party, instead of a cake!
Great picture of one, also love the b& w pix. Coincidentally we re having sundaes tonite from our vintage seaside icecream ...hut? booth? You stand on the curb with the moths and the wet beach towels and everyone's in flipflops. The ice cream place is c. 1950. But sadly, no clowns...
